  2. Pick a purpose and pay R79

Sign in or create a free account, tell us why you are screening, and pay securely by card.
  3. Get the PDF by email

We screen the name and email a dated report within minutes. If the screen cannot run, you are refunded in full.

What the report shows

Every report is a dated PDF you can keep with your onboarding or vendor file.

  • Whether the name matched any sanctions or PEP list entry
  • For each possible match: the matched name, the list or source, the country and match strength
  • For a PEP: the public position held, where the list records it
  • The date and time of the screen, the list version and your order reference
  • The purpose you gave, for your own audit file

What it does not show

Criminal records are not checked, and anything about criminal records is removed before the report is built. The report does not show addresses or contact details. A possible match is a name match for you to review, not a finding that the person or company is sanctioned.

Know who you take on

Screening questions

What is a PEP?

A politically exposed person (PEP) is someone who holds, or has held, a prominent public position, such as a senior politician, judge, senior official or head of a state-owned company. South African law also uses the term prominent influential person. Being a PEP is not wrongdoing: it means a business relationship may call for extra care.

Which lists do you screen?

The sanctions and politically exposed person (PEP) datasets of our verification provider, VerifyNow, which cover international and South African sources. The report names the list or source of each possible match and the list version used, where the provider gives them.

Does the screen include criminal records?

No. Criminal records are not part of this product. If the provider returns anything about criminal records, CheckID drops it before the report is built: it is never shown, emailed or stored.

What does a possible match mean?

A possible match means a list entry has a name like the one you entered. It is not proof that this is the same person or company. Compare the details in the report, such as country, date of birth and position, with what you know, and ask for more information before you make a decision.

What if the name is clear?

The report says no match was found on the lists screened at the time of the check. Lists change, so screen again when your own policy says to, for example before a large payment or at a contract renewal.

Does this make my business FICA compliant?

No single check does. If your business is an accountable institution under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act, your obligations come from your own risk management and compliance programme. This report can be one record in that process. It is not legal advice.

Do you need the person's ID number?

No. The screen runs on the name only, so you do not share an ID number with us for this check. Use the full name as it appears on their ID or registration documents for the best results.

Do you keep the report or the name?

No. The name is held only until the screen finishes, and the report is built in memory and emailed once, so save it. We keep an audit record of your order: your name and email, the purpose you chose, a masked name, whether the screen was clear or found a possible match, the price and the payment references.

Why do you ask for a purpose?

The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) requires a lawful reason to process someone's personal information. Choosing a purpose records yours with the order, so you can show why the screen was done.

Screen a name before you do business
